WBC Super Middleweight Champion

Name : Carl Froch Nickname : The Cobra Date of birth : 02/07/1977 Height : 6'0" Style : Orthodox Birthplace : Nottingham Home Town : Nottingham County : Nottinghamshire Country : England Divison : Super Middleweight Trainer : Robert McCracken

Carl 'The Cobra' Froch is Britain's only current World boxing champion. The undefeated Nottingham native claimed the WBC Super Middleweight title in a thrilling battle with the (until then) unbeaten Canadian, Jean Pascal in December of 2008. He's since gone on to wow fight fans Stateside with a sensational final round victory over former Undisputed Middleweight Champ, Jermain Taylor.

It's a mark of the kind of champion Froch in his first World title defence he wanted to lay down a real marker by taking a big scalp like Taylor when most champions would have settled for a routine first defence on home soil.

Froch's attitude however is consistent with the hunger for success he has shown since his amateur career. The Cobra ended his unpaid career by becoming the first ever British boxer to win a medal at a World Championships by winning Silver at the 2001 Worlds.

Froch then signed professional terms with Hennessy Sports to lead the "Real Class of 2002". He wasted no time in displaying his venomous power in the pro ranks and within two years he had claimed the English and Commonwealth Super Middleweight titles.

He closed out 2004 with a British title win to claim the famous Lonsdale belt, a belt he would eventually go on to keep following 3 successful defences.

Froch's relentless progression through the British, European and ultimately the World rankings saw him reach the number 1 position with the WBC to set up his World title showdown with Pascal in December of 2008.

In a fight of the year candidate in Nottingham the unbeaten duo did battle over 12 ferocious rounds with Froch's greater power, stamina, ability and desire winning the day in a thrilling encounter.

Now having successfully climbed his way to the top of the Super Middleweight division Froch wants to establish himself as one of the best fighters in the world pound for pound.
