Former WBC Light Welterweight Champion

Name : Junior Witter Nickname : The Hitter Date of birth : 10/03/1974 Height : 5'7" Style : Switch Hitter Birthplace : Bradford Home Town : Sheffield County : Yorkshire Country : England Divison : Light Welterweight Trainer : Brendan Ingle / Dominic Ingle

Junior "The Hitter" Witter is one of the boxing's most accomplished fighters in recent years with a resume that stacks up alongside some of British boxing's greats.

The Bradford native has held British, Commonwealth, European and World titles in a glorious career since turning professional in 1997 and beaten World class fighters such as Andriy Kotelnik, Lovemore N'dou, Vivian Harris and DeMarcus Corley.

Based out of the legendary Ingle gym in Sheffiled the power punching switch hitter turned pro in 1997 and made steady progress. A shot at Zab Judah's IBF Light Welterweight title in 2000 proved to have come too soon but Witter successfully rebuilt to claim the British and Commonwealth titles before adding the European crown to his list of honours with an impressive second round stoppage win over Salvatore Battaglia in 2004.

Following 3 successful defences of his European title and a WBC title elimination victory over Lovemore N'dou Witter secured his second crack at a World title and this time he made no mistake with a clear points win over DeMarcus Corley to claim the WBC Light Welterweight title.

Witter made a pair of successful defences halting challengers Arturo Morua and Vivian Harris inside the distance before dropping a split decision verdict to unbeaten American, Timothy Bradley in May of last year.

Witter has since bounced back with a win and on Aug 1st he will look to recapture his old world title belt when he travels to Palm Springs to take on Devon Alexander with his old WBC belt once again on the line. Unfortantly Junior's title challenge was unsuccessful and retired at the end of the 8th with a injury to his elbow.
