Tyson Fury is creating the kind of excitement in the heavyweight division not seen sinceā¦.well Tyson! The 6 foot 9 inch 20 year old only turned professional in December 2008 but he's already racked up 6 straight wins building a 100% KO ratio in the process and reminding people of the rise of his namesake, Mike Tyson who blitzed his way through the heavyweight division in the mid 80's.
Fury was born in 1988 but he was 7 weeks premature and weighed in at just one pound. Doctors feared that he would not make it but his father 'Gypsy' John Fury, himself an up and coming heavyweight prospect at the time of his son's birth was convinced that his son was already a fighter and with "Iron Mike" then reigning as undisputed heavyweight champ he decided to call him Tyson.
Now 20 years later and following an amateur career that saw him win an ABA Super heavyweight title and medals at World and European Junior Championships Tyson Fury is one of the most talked about prospects in World boxing.
The outspoken heavyweight has laid down the gauntlet to his British heavyweight rivals and he claims they are running scared. Fury's next outing is in Wigan on June 13th and he hopes to end his first year as a pro with a British title.
On the 11th September at the Brentwood Centre Fury claimed the English Heavyweight Title from Champion John McDermott on Points over an exciting 10 rounds.
