We would like to issue a statement in regards to former world champion Junior Witter's desire to return to the ring in the welterweight division. "Witter is a former world champion and I think a fight between him and me would be a fan friendly fight. I am looking to move up to welterweight myself so this is a perfect opportunity for both of us," said Frankie "El Gato" Figueroa.
Team Gato isn't afraid to travel to England and welcomes the challenge of fighting Witter in his backyard. "We expect a packed house if the potential fight is made. Tell me where to sign and we will jump on a plane," said Figueroa.
Gato fought on the Calzaghe-Jones televised undercard which helped him gain more exposure in both the U.S.A. and the U.K. "They don't have to worry about selling tickets. Junior has his fan base and I have a lot of fans in the UK myself. Check out my Facebook and Twitter accounts and you can see how many fans I have out there."
Gato wants the fans to know that this is a fight he really wants. "I have lost a few fights and won my share as well. It is time for me to step up in weight and take my career to the next level. I think a fight with Witter can help him and myself. If he wins he is back in the mix for a big fight. If I win like I know I will then I can be in the mix at 147 lbs. My team already left his promoter a message and sent an email. Lets make this fight happen."
