Froch heads for Sheffield

CARL Froch will be training in Sheffield and at the Liberty Gym in Sneinton ahead of his WBC title defence against Mikkel Kessler on April 17.

"I've already started easing myself into the training, with a few runs to shake off the mince pies," said Froch.

"But the snow and ice have made it a bit risky for roadwork.

"Instead, I'll begin hitting the bags down at Liberty Gym before deciding what sort of sparring I will recruit to sharpen my tools.

"Darren Barker and maybe some big light-heavyweights will be the perfect blend of sparring for this one.

"I think my style will be something he has not encountered before and he will find it difficult to replicate me during his own sparring."

It remains to be seen how much Kessler has left in the tank following his defeat by Andre Ward last time out.

"Kessler is a proud warrior," said Froch. "I think he's got a lot left.

"I certainly won't be taking him lightly and I'll be working hard up in Sheffield with my trainer, Robert McCracken.

"The facilities up there are great and I think Rob wants to get me involved with the England squad.

"I had a good amateur career and went all over the world with England. Working with the young lads will do me good too, it will help put the spring back in my step."
