Tyson Fury back with a vengeance after hand injury

British heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury proved his fitness for a return to the ring with a savage sparring performance.

Fury, widely tipped as a future world champion, has been sidelined for four months with a hand injury.

But after battering Midlands Area champion Lee Swaby, the 6ft 9in 21-year-old is ready to make his comeback Stateside in Connecticut on Friday.

Swaby was given a brutal and merciless beating by Tyson in a sixround sparring session. The British No.15 left the Manchester gym bloodied and nursing a smashed nose.

Fury said: "I needed some good sparring to make sure the hand is OK and that's what I've had over the last few days.

"I felt the hand a bit, but I've no worries about next week. It'll be fine. Now I just can't wait to get back in the ring fighting again."

Unbeaten Fury, who won a controversial points verdict to take John McDermott's English title in September, wants to put the record straight by winning the British crown - ideally in his home city.

He said: "I've never fought in Manchester since I turned pro and that's what I want to do this year.

"I'm sure I'd get the fans behind me and fill one of the big venues here.

"This is a great boxing city and has been crying out for a top heavyweight.

"I know that I can go all the way. No-one will be able to live with my power and speed."
