Kessler intent on ending Froch's reign

This is Nottingham22nd February, 2010

MIKKEL Kessler has warned Carl Froch he is about to respond in exactly the same manner as when he lost to Joe Calzaghe - by winning back the world title.

The Dane suffered the first defeat of his career to the Welshman in front of more than 50,000 fans at the Millennium Stadium back in November 2007.

But after Calzaghe relinquished the WBC and WBA belts, Kessler stepped up to regain the WBA title against Dimitri Sartison with a 12th round knockout.

Kessler won his next two bouts only to slip to defeat in his Super Six opener with Andre Ward three months ago, losing his crown.

But now he intends to make amends with immediate effect in front of his own fans by clawing back the prestigious WBC belt from on April 24.

Kessler warned: "It was two belts I lost that night to Calzaghe but he threw them away and the fight after, I won the WBA one back. What makes a champion is losing and standing up again and winning it back. I intend to do that again.

"Carl Froch is the world champion so it is a big challenge for me. This is a last chance, a big chance. The Super Six means it is now or never. I will do my best but I still feel like I am the best super-middleweight in the world."

Kessler boasts a 42-2 record while Froch is unbeaten in his 26 professional fans and both fighters have great respect for each other.

But the Dane said: "I always have respect for my opponents and I hate trash talk. It is a gentleman's sport so why should we go and say bad things.

"Privately Carl is a very nice guy but when it is business, it is business.

"He is going to be in for a big surprise with my following in Denmark.

"It is big pressure in front of them and you never want to disappoint anyone. My training is going well, so it is up to me to show people I am the best fighter."
