Carl Froch demands Joe Calzaghe match-up as he looks to build on stunning Jermain Taylor win

Carl Froch has vowed to tame the world's super middleweights after being labelled "a beast" for the way he destroyed Jermain Taylor.

The 31-year-old WBC 12- stone titleholder from Nottingham displayed an iron chin to withstand the American challenger before winning by a savage stoppage with only 14 seconds remaining of the 12th and final round.

After 11 rounds he trailed the ex-world middleweight champion by four points on two judges' scorecards and needed a knockout.

Taylor's promoter Lou DiBella said: "Froch was a beast in that ring, as strong as an ox, he just kept coming and refused to lose. Carl Froch is my kind of fighter."

He produced one of the great performances by a British boxer overseas, comparable with Lloyd Honeyghan's victory over Don Curry in 1986 and John H Stracey's defeat of Jose Napoles in 1975.

Froch wants unification fights with WBA super middleweight titleholder Mikkel Kessler or IBF title-holder Lucian Bute but the biggest match of all would be against retired super middleweight king Joe Calzaghe.

The 37-year-old Welshman reiterated last week that he has no intention of coming back but having won a fight which Calzaghe predicted he would lose - and with his promoter Mick Hennessy having spoken to ITV about a possible pay-perview venture - Froch hopes he can entice him into the ring.

Froch taunted Calzaghe saying: "It seems he's comfortable with his pipe and slippers but before he settles too long in his rocking chair he should agree to the fight the British public wants to see.

"I know the fight is there because there is nothing like a domestic showdown with a world title on the line. It would be a throwback to the days of Benn, Eubank, Watson and Collins - a golden period for British boxing.
