Froch eyes undisputed world title

Nottingham boxer Carl Froch has set his sights on become the undisputed world champion after retaining his WBC title in the United States.

The 31-year-old made a great comeback to retain his super-middleweight crown against Jermain Taylor in Mashantucket.

Froch told BBC Radio Nottingham: "There are two big fights out there - Mikkel Kessler and Lucien Bute - the other two world champions in my weight.

"If I can become undisputed champion that's me hitting the pinnacle."

Froch added: "That's my career pretty much going as far as it can go."

The Gedling man revealed that his clash with Taylor was nearly scrapped after a recurring eye injury flared up.

"It was very serious and affecting my direct straight line vision," he said.

"Mentally the fight was on and then it was off - I didn't tell anyone, I just buried my head in the sand and got on with it."

Froch was behind going into the 12th round but surged back to knock Taylor out.

He said: "I'm never involved in a dull fight - I got a world-class boxer out of there in style and what a fantastic finish.

"It was just unbelievable and I think I've cracked America."

He said he was now looking forward to relaxing before thinking about fighting again.

"I'm having a month off. I'm not even going to look at a gym or go running.

"I just want total physical rest. Then I'm going to look at my options," he concluded.
