Froch leaving nothing to chance

CARL Froch is leaving nothing to chance ahead of his WBC title defence in America on April 25.

Froch flies out to Canada tomorrow to prepare for his showdown with American middleweight Jermain Taylor.

He will be based in Toronto for two weeks and will fly into Connecticut the week before the big fight.

"My weight is just about right, as always," said Froch. "I've just got a couple of pounds to shed so I should be all right on the night."

Froch plans to spar with Jean Pascal, the man he beat to lift the WBC belt in Nottingham, and also has a couple of top amateurs lined up.

"Jean is a great fighter and should provide me with everything that I need," said Froch, who will be accompanied on the trip by younger brother Wayne.

"Wayne has been working hard on my house for me recently. He will be out there for three weeks and I'm really looking forward to having him for company.

"It should be a great experience - for both of us." Froch has defended the decision to fight Taylor on American soil and hopes the gamble pays off.

"I wanted to face a big name and, by going to America, it shows how serious I am," said Froch. "I know it is going to be tough. Believe it or not, I was a fan of his.

"I watched his fights with Bernard Hopkins and Jeff Lacy. He hasn't fought since the Lacy fight and is going to be hungrier than ever.

"I seem to have upset him in the war of the words. I've definitely got under his skin. But I've been sparring hard with Danny McIntosh and Paul David. They are big lads and I've had my hands full.

"I'm a bit sore, but it should stand me in good stead. Hopefully, when I've got Taylor out of the way, I can make my next defence at the City Ground."
