Froch to stay in Super Six after reaching compromise
ESPN.co.uk29th April, 2010
Carl Froch has insisted that he will not quit the Super Six tournament after he agreed to fight next opponent Arthur Abraham at a neutral venue.
Following his defeat to Mikkel Kessler in the competition, which will crown an undisputed super-middleweight champion, Froch was adamant that his next fight would be in Britain - or it would not happen at all.
Having complained in the wake of the Kessler fight - which took place in his opponent's native Denmark - that he had not been awarded the points victory because he was away from home, Froch was desperate to have his next bout back in England.
He went as far to suggest that there was an agreement in place that the fight would take place in the UK, but Abraham's promoter issued a strong denial of these claims.
A compromise would now appear to have been reached for a bout that is a must-win for both men - they need a victory to guarantee their place in the semi-finals of the competition.
"I will not be fighting in Germany, simple as that," Froch said. "But it has been pretty much agreed that we will fight in a neutral venue. I don't think quitting is an option."
After losing his WBC title to Kessler in his third defence of the belt, Froch knows the best way to regain his title is by setting up a rematch by staying in the tournament - going some way to explaining his u-turn.
