Darren Barker's title warning to Darren McDermott

DUDLEY'S Darren McDermott has been warned that his British and Commonwealth middleweight title hopes will come crashing down around his ears in Watford later this month.

McDermott meets Commonwealth champion Darren Barker, who is making his fourth defence, in a British title eliminator on May 23.

But Barker is confident that he will surge past the challenge of McDermott and set-up a shot at Birmingham's British champion, Matthew Macklin.

"It makes me laugh when people say they're stronger than me,'' he said. "People think that I'm primarily a boxer and I don't like to fight.

"They assume that I'm not physically strong but once they get in there with me they find out just how strong I am.

"I've sparred big strong super-middleweight world champs like Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler and had no problems.

"I can guarantee that I certainly won't be backing off.''

"I've watched McDermott's last three fights and no disrespect to him but I don't believe he's boxed in the same class as me.''
