Barker crushes McDermott ambition

BBC Sport24th May, 2009

Darren Barker stopped Darren McDermott in style inside four rounds to defend his Commonwealth middleweight crown.

The Barnet boxer floored his opponent from Dudley with a devastating right, although McDermott wanted to fight on.

Barker, 27, making a third defence of his title, improved his unbeaten record to 20 wins, 13 by knockout.

McDermott, 30, backed by a vocal following at the Watford Colosseum, suffered his second defeat as a professional, falling to 15-2-1.

The fight acted as an eliminator for a British middleweight title challenge, and Barker is now keen to face reigning champion Matthew Macklin.
