Froch: Haye can knock Wlad out

Carl Froch has backed David Haye to overcome the challenge of Wladimir Klitschko when the pair clash on June 20 in Germany.

Froch is currently Britain's only World Champion, having retained his WBC super-middleweight crown against Jermain Taylor last month, but believes his compatriot will follow in his footsteps.

And, at that point, it will be a straight fight between the duo for the honour of being Britain's number one boxer.

"I'm not big on the celebrity thing. I'm a grounded individual," he insisted to The People.

"But I know it's important to have to raise your profile and it's probably between me and David Haye as to who takes on Ricky Hatton's mantle."

He went on: "I'm Britain's only World Champion though I think next month David will knock out Wladimir Klitschko, who is frightened of his own shadow."

And despite suggestions that he had a lucky escape in his bout against Taylor, Froch says he was always confident of a strong finish.

"I went out there with every intention of knocking him out in the 12th," he explained. "I hit him with a big shot at the end of 11 and knew he wouldn't recover.

"I was cool, composed, arms around my waist - as I am always critcised for - and I finished him in style."
