A press conference was conducted Wednesday (results unavailable for this edition) regarding the "Summer Showdown" boxing event scheduled in Reno July 11 to feature Yerington's Jesse Brinkley.

The conference held by promoters Let's Get It On Promotions and TKO Boxing, who are presenting the pro and amateur boxing event at the Reno Events Center on July 11, was to announce additional details of the "Summer Showdown", which is billed to feature world class professional and amateur boxing, with a release noting it is featuring the "Fighting Pride of Northern Nevada," Brinkley.

Tickets for the event were to go on sale Wednesday (June 3) morning through Ticketmaster and the Reno Events Center box office.

Appearing at the press conference besides Brinkley, who improved to 33-5 in his last appearance, a unanimous decision rivalry victory over Reno's Joey Gilbert, were: Tommy and Terry Lane of Reno-based Let's Get It On Promotions (owned in conjunction with their father, legendary referee Mills), Tyler Hinkey, a pro boxer promoted by LGIOP; Jeremy Catalano, a University of Nevada, Reno championship boxer expected to appear at the show; and Mike Martino, a UNR boxing team coach.

Earlier this spring Brinkley had "called out" several top super-middleweight boxers for future opponents, such as former world champion Jermain Taylor. However, prior to Wednesday, his opponent hadn't been announced.

He had also included Carl Froch, who defeated Taylor earlier this year, and former world champion Jeff Lacy on his "hit list" of future opponents, saying he wanted big-name opponents for big-money fights that would hopefully lead to a world title bout.

Taylor, despite losing the bout to Froch in April, was ahead on the score cards before the bout was stopped with seconds to go in the final round.

Brinkley is coming off the Valentine's Day win over local rival Gilbert, a bout in which he dominated in front of 7,000 fans at the Reno Events Center.

Speaking earlier this spring, Brinkley said of a possible fight with Taylor, "Jermain is among the very best fighters out there. He was seconds away from beating Froch"» he beat Hopkins twice, had the draw with Winky [Wright], beat Cory Spinks and Kassim Ouma. His only other losses were to [Kelly] Pavlik."

He continued, "At this point in my career I want to test myself against the very best in the division and he certainly qualifies. I need to find out for myself if I truly belong at the elite level. Jermain's a class act and it would be an honor to fight him." He added he would fight Taylor "anytime and anywhere."

About a location for a fight with 30-year-old Taylor (28-3-1, 17 KOs), who won a bronze medal at the 2000 Olypics Taylor , Brinkley stated, "If he wants to fight in Little Rock , no problem, just tell me what time. I'll fight him anytime and anywhere."

Brinkley is co-promoted by "Let's Get It On" Promotions and TKO BOXING Promotions of Las Vegas.
