Dougie's FAT Friday Mailbag

The Ring Doug Fischer19th June, 2009

How do you see the Klitschko-Chagaev fight going this weekend, besides the fact that it is a potential snoozefest! Like most, I believe Ruslan Chagaev is a far tougher assignment for Wladimir Klitschko than David Haye and could conceivably beat him. Anyone who can beat Felix Savon is technically superb. I believe, provided Ruslan can avoid another malady/injury he could spring the upset on a close points decision or even a TKO. He is by far the best fighter Klitschko has fought recently and being from one of the old Soviet states, is less likely to get mugged in a decision.

You asked about Tyson Fury vs Hayemaker in your mid-week mailbag, Fury is too raw and open and will need at least 2 years to be any way a threat. Would provide a great headline though, with Haye's big mouth (and Fury's!) it could be called: 'The Sound and the Fury'!

(P.S Can anyone beat Vitali? His 2 losses were technical and I felt he would have won them both, kudos to Timo Hoffman for lasting 12 rounds with this beast!) -- Patrick, Ireland

I don't see anyone beating Vitali Klitschko in the next two years. He's too tough, too big (and he knows how to USE his size, boxing and fighting "tall" from a distance), too strong, too powerful, and too smart. He's going to have to get old before anyone has a shot of toppling him.

I agree that Chagaev is a more difficult opponent for Wladdy than Haye would have been. The Uzbek is a technically sound southpaw with good footwork and counter-punching ability. He knows how to get low and bob and weave under incoming shots from taller fighters, and he's also got a pretty good straight left.

An upset is not out of the question -- especially if you're picking Chagaev on points -- but I'm going with Klitschko by unanimous decision.

I like that title for the future David Haye-Tyson Fury showdown (you know they're going to fight eventually). You've got some promoter in you (or at least a little publicist).
