Fury v McDermott
Telegraph Gareth A Davies30th June, 2009
British heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury is pursuing a title fight with English Champion John McDermott, with the British Boxing Board of Control having ordered that the bout must take place before the end of November.
Purse bids for the contest have been ordered for July 8.
Fury, 6ft 9in, son of former heavyweight John Fury, has won all six of his fights by knockout since joining the professional ranks last December.
Fury fights next at the York Hall, Bethnal Green on July 18 on the undercard of the British light-heavyweight title fight between Danny McIntosh and Nathan Cleverly.
Fury hopes a win at the York Hall will secure a shot at McDermott's English title. He said: "I've been looking for John McDermott for a while now. He's been offered the fight before but turned it down, but now that the fight has been ordered by the Board he surely can't back out again."
