Champion champions champions

My Nottingham - Nottingham City Council2nd July, 2009

Local champion Carl Froch is on the search for community champions. The boxing world title holder is launching this year's Proud of You Awards, asking people to nominate anyone who they feel have gone out of their way to make a positive contribution to the lives of others in the city.

The Proud of You Awards, run in association with Trent fm and your local Neighbourhood Management team, are a celebration of the hard work and dedication of some of our residents who do a lot for other people.

Carl will help to launch this year's awards in the Old Market Square on Monday 6th July from 12noon - 3pm, with support from the Trent Thunder Crew, and will be chatting to people about their own heroes.

Carl said: "Nottingham has got a lot to be proud of - and nothing more than the great people who live here. We want to hear about all the local unsung heroes who make such a difference to people's lives in their community so they can get the recognition they deserve."

Residents of Nottingham are invited to nominate an individual or group for one of the following awards:

Caring Award

Champion of the Environment Award

Charitable Worker of the Year Award

Danielle Beccan Young Achiever Award

Neighbourhood Management's Community Excellence Award

Trent FM's Local Hero Award

An independent judging panel will select a winner for each category, winners will then be surprised with a special visit from Trent FM. Nottingham City Council will also award the winners a grant which must go to a local charity or community group of their choice.

The new Neighbourhood Management Community Excellence Award will recognise an individual or group who are an inspiration to others, change lives for the better and promote a strong community spirit.

Councillor Jon Collins, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said "There are also many people in our communities who go out of their way to do something special. The Proud of You Awards is our way of recognising and celebrating the contributions made by these extraordinary people."
