Carl Froch is part of a £30million tournament involving the world's best super-middleweights being discussed to start in October.

American broadcaster Showtime is plotting the league-style competition between six top boxers that will culminate in a semi-final and final next year.

Nottingham's WBC world super-middleweight champion Froch, 32, is expected to have his next fight and first of the competition against America's 2004 Olympic bronze medallist Andre Dirrell in his home city in October.

On the agenda: Athens 2004 bronze medalist Andre Dirrell is next up for Froch

Others being considered as competitors in the tournament are Armenia's unbeaten IBF world middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, Denmark's WBA super-middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler and Americans Jermain Taylor and Andre Ward.

Kessler was beaten by Welshman Joe Calzaghe two years ago while Froch knocked out Taylor in the final seconds of their bout in April in the first defence of his world title.

Froch's next bout after Dirrell, 26, could be against fellow unbeaten world champion Abraham, who is a big star in Germany where he is based.

Froch's promoter Mick Hennessy said: 'I can't really comment on it but I'm working on something very exciting for Carl, although nothing has been signed yet.

'I'm talking about some big name opponents for Carl and if what I'm working on comes to fruition there will be a big announcement in New York on Monday
