Murray Fined by BBBoC, Still Hopes For Thaxton Fight

John Murray, trainer Joe Gallagher, and manager Mike Marsden, have all been fined by the BBBoC for coming in over the lightweight limit ahead of the Scott Lawton fight last month. Murray was stripped of his title after coming in 0.08 kilos over.

There was no mention of a ban or title embargo for any of the parties involved in the hearing, in theory this clears the way for a Murray versus Jon Thaxton showdown, should Murray and Thaxton be mandated to fight for the vacant title by the board.

On the night of the fight itself, Murray shrugged off weight issues to hammer Lawton into a sixth-round stoppage defeat, he then apologised for coming in over the weight limit. Murray had been due to defend his title for a second time that evening.

The Manchester fighter will now be keeping his fingers crossed, in the hope that the board will put his name together with Thaxton's for the vacant title.
