MATT MACKLIN will have Freddie Roach in his corner when he takes on Darren Barker for the British, Commonwealth and European middleweight titles on September 18.
Birmingham's Macklin faces Barker at the NEC and will prepare for the bout in Los Angeles at Roach's famed Wild Card gym beore heading back to the UK two weeks before to the fight.
Macklin hopes the famed trainer will be able to give him a crucial edge over Barker in a showdown that can lead the winner to fame and fortune.
He said: "I've been training with Freddie for a while now an it has given me a new impetus.
"Freddie will be my cornerman on the night and his experience will help me leave the ring with my old European title."
Barker will prepare at altitude in Tenerife where his daily routine includes runs of up to six miles up Mount Tiede.
