Fight fans pack out Hand Arena to Watch Fury vs Maddalone.

SOMERSET (8 July) Last night thousands of fight fans packed into Clevedon's Hand Arena to watch an action packed night of professional boxing.

Screened live in the UK on Channel Five, Super Channel in the Canada and Wealth TV in the United States, the main event saw Irish heavyweight champion Tyson Fury take on the modern day Rocky, New Yorker, Vinny Maddalone, for the vacant WBO Intercontinental heavyweight contest.

6ft 9inch Fury extended his 19-fight unbeaten run when the referee stepped in after 95 seconds into round 5 and stopped the contest due to a cut to Maddalone's left eye. The victory was recorded as a technical knockout to Heavyweight Sensation Tyson Fury.

Also in action was Chris Eubank Junior, who was watched from the ringside by his boxing legend father. The unbeaten 22-year-old took on Birmingham hard-man Terry Carruthers over six rounds. Carruther's as expected proved to be a tough opponent and took Eubank Jr the distance. Referee Grant Willis scored the bout 59-57 in Eubank Jr's favour and extended his unbeaten recorded to 5 -0.

The evening also saw Bristol boxer Lee Haskins claim the vacant European Bantamweight title after beating Stuart Hall over 12 rounds. From the first bell to the last the crowd were on the edge of their seats and when MC Thomas Trieber announced the scores, 118-111, 117-111 and 118-110 in favour of Lee the 3000 strong crowd erupted and the noise was electrifying.
