Fury: I'll surprise Maloney

Tyson Fury insists he is ready to prove Frank Maloney wrong when he takes on John McDermott for the English heavyweight title.

The 6ft 9in 21-year-old has recorded seven knockouts in his seven professional fights to date and is now gearing up for his first title challenge on September 11.

And, after revealing that he has fully recovered from his back injury, Fury has told promoter Maloney that he can expect a surprise.

"It will make a nice change for Frank Maloney to finally have a decent heavyweight on one of his shows," he said.

"I've watched some of the big lumps he's had on his shows recently and it's like watching Dumbo on Ice - they can barely stand upright, let alone throw punches.

"To be fair to John McDermott, he's the best of a bad lot with Maloney's heavyweights and, thankfully for him, he can fight a lot better than he looks."

Maloney suggested Fury's opponents to date have been 'ordinary' and accused the youngster of having a big mouth, but the boxer feels he can back up his claims.

"I might talk the talk but I walk the walk as well and I'll prove that against McDermott," he said.

"Maloney obviously believes that McDermott can beat me, but I think that just proves what I said before - what Maloney knows about heavyweights could be tattooed on the back of my big toe."
