Super Six approaching for Froch

STV22nd September, 2009

Carl Froch is just under a month away from his opening bout of the Super Six World Boxing Classic when he takes on American Andre Dirrell in Nottingham.

With both boxers undefeated, someone's 0 has got to go, but the Nottingham boxer is confident he can take care of Dirrell and secure the two points awarded for the victory in his home town on October 17.

On the same night in Berlin, Germany's Arthur Abraham and Froch's previous victim Jermain Taylor will battle it out in the second fight of the competition.

Taylor showed his boxing skill against Froch, but his fitness let him down as struggled in the later rounds before the referee stepped in with seconds remaining on the clock. Abraham, the other hand, has never been beaten in 30 fights, having won 24 of those by knockout. The German was the reigning IBF middleweight champion for four years before moving up a division.

The Super Six tournament will see the six best super middleweights battle it out to be crowned champion of the division. The boxers are Arthur Abraham, Andre Dirrell, Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Jermain Taylor and Andre Ward. Both Kessler's WBA and Froch's WBC titles will be on the line.

Each boxer will fight three different opponents in a points based competition; two points awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss.

The top four scorers in the group stage progress to a semi final and the two winners then meet in the final to see who will be crowned champion.
