Hennessy Sports announced today that it has signed undefeated light heavyweight prospect Lionell "Lonnie B" Thompson to an exclusive, long-term promotional contract.
The 26-year-old Thompson (9-0, 6 KOs), fighting out of Buffalo, will be in action October 22 on the Logan Cotton McGuinness vs. Benoit Gaudet undercard, presented by Hennessy Sports in association with Interbox and United Promotions, at The Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
"We expect big things from Lionell," promoter Mick Hennessy said. "He was a decorated U.S. amateur boxer who has developed quickly as a professional. Lionell is a hard working, dedicated boxer and we couldn't be happier adding him to our growing stable of future champions. We'd also like to thank his manager, Tim Ziccardi, and head trainer, Ross Thompson, for helping to make this happen."
Rated as high as No. 2 in his division as a U.S. amateur boxer, Thompson was a five-time New York Golden Glove and three-time Empire State champion. He will be fighting an opponent to soon be announced in a six round bout Oct. 22.
Tickets for his Oct. 22 fight, starting at $30.00, may be purchased at the Hersey Centre Box Office, through Ticketmaster at (855) 985-5000 or ticketmaster.ca.
