Furious Fury responds to Team Povetkin.
Hennessy Sports 31st October, 2011
London (31, October, 2011) After reading yesterday's reports from Sauerland Events regarding comments made about WBA Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin, British and Commonwealth Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury would like to set the record straight.
"Before my promoter Mick Hennessy had finalized my fight against Neven Pajkic he received a call from Sauerland Events who asked would we be interested in making the Povetkin fight for December, they were told that we were very interested in the fight but they would need to come back with a sensible offer very quickly as we were close to finalizing my next fight.
"But to this day my promoter has not received any kind of offer so we had to proceed with my Commonwealth title defence.
"In my opinion the call was only made in the hope we would turn down the fight so they could go public with it, if they were serious, a proper and sensible offer would have been made. I think they were shocked when Mick said we were up for the fight". Said Tyson.
The 23 year old from Manchester is defending his Commonwealth title against Canadian champion Neven Pajkic at EventCity, Manchester a week on Saturday (12th Nov) the fight will be broadcast live on Channel 5.
"I stand by my comments, Povetkin isn't in my league and I believe his team knows that, I would take him a part, it would be an easier night's work than I had against Chisora." Added Tyson.
