Carl Froch to switch on Christmas lights

THE city's festivities start in style tomorrow when thousands of Christmas lights are officially switched on.

The event takes place in Old Market Square from 5.45pm, when WBC Champion Carl Froch counts down to the big moment at 6.20pm.

This year the switch will be flicked by the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Jeannie Packer, in the centre of the outdoor ice rink.

The National Ice Centre's outdoor rink will also open that evening with the first two public ice skating sessions at 8pm and 9pm.

This event also marks the official opening of the traditional German Market and Christmas Crafts and Gifts Market.
