Another member of the Fury family made his first steps into professional boxing on Saturday night, as James Dean Fury made his debut live on DAZN.

Fury arrived at the professional ranks with an impressive amateur background, having won three national titles before making the transition to the paid ranks.

Appearing on the undercard of Troy Williamson’s rematch with Callum Simpson, Fury was matched with the experienced Dzmitry Atrokhau for his opening contest.

While fighters making their professional debut are often given a relatively straightforward introduction to life in the paid ranks, Fury was faced with a more difficult test. Atrokhau, a tricky southpaw with plenty of experience, was brought in at short notice and presented a challenge Fury had to solve from the opening bell.

Fury was open in his assessment of his own performance afterwards, admitting that the occasion may have affected him and that he allowed himself to become caught up in the moment.

“Me at my best, that man out there, no disrespect to him, he’s got a load of experience, but he should not have touched me. What happened is I went out there, got hyped up, got carried away and it is what it is.”

While it wasn’t the debut Fury would have wanted, facing a durable and experienced opponent will have given him valuable experience to take into the next stage of his career.

The young Fury will now be looking to return to the ring once more before the end of the year, with the aim of putting in a stronger performance and showing the full extent of his abilities.
